Abaebu Heads Ritman University Third Student Government

Mittchell Chiebuka Abaebu, a 300 Level student of Political Science, has been sworn in as the third President of Ritman University’s Student Leadership Team (SLT).

Abaebu won against two other contestants in a keenly contested election held on Friday 19 July 2019. He was sworn in together with other members of the student executive on Wednesday 31 July 2019. Etido Jacob Alex of Accounting department (200 Level) emerged Vice President and Benjamin Samuel Udoh, a third year student of Political Science took office as Secretary.

Dr Uduimoh Becomes Fellow, Consultant of Management Institute

The Institute of Management Consultants has elected Dr Anthony Uduimoh of Ritman University (RU) as Fellow of the Institute in recognition of his achievements in the profession.

Uduimoh also received recognition from the institute as a Certified Management Consultant after meeting the International Standards Registration Requirements.

The Board of Trustees and Governing Council of the Institute certified that Dr Uduimoh was elected “In recognition of outstanding academic and professional standing, and demonstrated commitment to creating, maintaining, extending and promoting the highest world standards of management consulting practice, ethics competence and client service”.

Ritman University Hosts National Spelling Bee Finals

A thrilling spectacle it was at Ritman University (RU), Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State on Saturday 27 July 2019 as the national champions of Nigeria Spelling Bee were crowned amidst cheers of joy.

Even the losing spellers got caught in the wave of excitement as participants savoured that glamour of the moment with gratitude to RU for being a capable host to all 61 spellers representing the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria as well as their coaches and officials.

Odutola Dolapo and Grace Idowu of Montclair College, Ogun State emerged the National Champions in Senior and Junior Categories respectively. Inyene-Abasi Afangide of Ritman College – who was the only student from Akwa Ibom State to make it to the finals – passed the first three rounds of the national final before she was eliminated.

Restoring Public Confidence in Nigerian Judiciary – Prof Udombana Discourses at RU Fourth Public Lecture

Ritman University (RU) proffered solutions to unethical practices currently plaguing the nation’s justice delivery system during its Fourth Public Lecture delivered by Prof Nsongurua Udombana on Restoring Public Confidence in the Nigerian Judiciary. Event was chaired by former Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State, Justice Idongesit Ntem Isua on Friday 12 April 2019.

Vice Chancellor Celestine Ntuen in his welcome address announced that RU – in addition to earning accreditation for all its academic programmes – has received full license to operate as a private university. He said RU public lecture topics are selected from emerging and controversial issues to engage the community in open discussions and bring about ideas for development.

Udombana, a Professor of International Law at Babcock University, asserted that people who sit in the hallowed Temple of Justice are expected to live on a higher moral level than the society they seek to preserve. In his words, “Judicial independence assumes that those who sit in the Temple of Justice know the truth; are guided by reason; and are of unquestionable integrity” and that judges are assumed to be free of pride, envy, avarice and possess capacity to act out of duty, which enables them to transcend the worldly impulses or passions that affect our sentiments and tempt us into excesses.

Ritman University in Good Standing as Fourth Batch Undergrads Matriculate

Erstwhile Visiting Professor of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof Akaneren Essien, says Ritman University (RU) is rated by the NUC as being “in good standing”.
Prof Essien, a former Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo, remarked that RU has recorded huge successes in its academic programmes and the recent NUC accreditation exercise in which it received approval for all the 14 programmes offered.
Matriculating students of RU were urged to dream of inventing works that can transform society in the mould of Facebook, Google, Samsung or Microsoft. Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Celestine Ntuen, gave this charge during his speech at RU’s 4th Matriculation ceremony held in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State on Friday 22 March 2019.

Google Trains Ritman University Students on Digital Skills

Trainers under the auspices of Google Digital Skills for Africa initiative have taught Ritman University students opportunities available on the internet for learning, staying safe online, getting employed and starting businesses.

The training session, facilitated by Konverge Media, held on Tuesday 12 March 2019 at the RU College Auditorium in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State in furtherance of Google’s vision to inculcate digital skills in 10 million Africans within the next five years.

Digital Skills Trainer, Okoli Benjamin, explained that the World Wide Web is just one of the major services running on the internet, others including: email, instant messaging, multiplayer games and the File Transfer Protocol (FTP) service. A website, he defined, is a collection of web pages that are grouped together under the same domain (domain being the space rented to host a website). Differentiating between a browser and search engine, he said search engine is a special kind of website that helps users find web pages from other websites, while a browser is a piece of software that retrieves and displays web pages. Examples of search engine are Google, Bing etc.

Prof Comfort Ekpo Trains RU Lecturers on Effective Teaching

As part of a staff capacity building series at Ritman University, Prof. Comfort Ekpo – erstwhile Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo – has lectured as guest in an Effective Teaching Workshop on Tuesday 26 February 2019.

Ekpo explained that effectiveness in teaching entails an organized interaction in which objectives are clearly stated to meet learner’s expectation, learner’s interest is aroused and sustained, comprehension is aided, classroom management is enabled, peer learning is visible, variety of teaching and learning styles are productively employed, and visualization as well as practical learning experiences are aided.
